The Polish company Bumar-Labedy has signed a contract with the 1st regional logistics base in Valcza, Poland for major repairs and maintenance of the batch of PT-91 tanks. It is expected that the repair of the entire batch of tanks should be completed within the next two years, by the end of 2024.
It is noted that the repair of PT-91 tanks is crucial for the capabilities of the armored and mechanized troops of the Polish army. “Thanks to regular maintenance and repairs, the armored vehicles used in the Polish army are regaining their full potential and maintaining the necessary combat readiness,” said Edita Szymanska, Chairman of the Board of ZM Bumar-Labedy SA.
As part of the repair work, in addition to reproducing the full life of the tank, it is possible to equip it with new elements that will increase its comfort and combat capabilities. We remind you that Poland is actively working to renew its fleet of armored vehicles. In particular, the United States is currently deciding to speed up the supply of Abrams tanks to Poland.
It is also possible to deliver South Korean K2 Black Panther tanks to Poland at the negotiation stage. Poland continues negotiations with Germany for the transfer of state-of-the-art German Leopard 2A7 tanks. Germany, for its part, “thinks it can do it.”
About PT-91 main battle tank
PT-91 is the main battle tank of the Polish army developed based on the Soviet T-72M2 tank. In 1995, the tank entered service with the Polish Land Forces and is estimated to have produced just over 280 units. Poland, Malaysia, Georgia, and India are operators of this tank.
The tank is operated by a three-member crew. The tank weighs about 46 tons and is about 6.95 m long [9.67 with the barrel in forwarding position]. The armor of the tank is composed as follows: composite armor; front and side armor laminated; front, side, and top armor behind Erawa-1 / Erawa-2 ERA, and steel side anti-cumulative screens.
The 125 mm 2A46 [D-81TM] gun [42 rounds] is the main αямαмєит, and in addition to it, there is an integrated 7.62mm PKT coaxial general-purpose machine gun [2,000 rounds] and a 12.7 mm NSVT heavy machine gun [300 rounds].
The tank is powered by a Polish engine: PZL-Wola S-12U diesel engine, providing 850 hp [634 kW], and with one charge of the fuel tank the tank travels 650 km. The maximum speed at which the tank can move is 60 km / h.
